Bluefin rebound at Cortez Bank while coastal yellowtail stay hot

California Fishing

Southern California’s early-September offshore picture just got a bluefin line again. BDOutdoors’ SoCal Bight Report for Sept. 4, 2026, from Erik Landesfeind, says bluefin are back and biting at Cortez Bank after the summer lull that had many crews looking elsewhere.

Yellowtail have not left the program. The same weekly wrap says yellows are still chewing along the coast, and the offshore bite around the Channel Islands is running hot — a three-part pattern (bank bluefin, coastal yellows, island offshore) rather than a single “go here” waypoint.

Conditions and daily spots still move with SST and bait. Check the live report and current CDFW ocean regs before you leave the dock; this brief is the Sept. 4 snapshot, not a substitute for that morning’s radio traffic.

This is a The Gillnet news desk summary, not a reprint.
