NMFS corrects California ocean salmon bag-limit wording

Federal managers fixed a paperwork miss on California’s ocean salmon bag language. A Sept. 3, 2026 Federal Register correction (effective Sept. 2) restores wording that dropped out of the May 19, 2026 final rule (91 FR 29092) for the recreational fishery from Pigeon Point to the U.S./Mexico border — the Monterey management area.

The insert is the bag limit anglers already fish to: “all salmon except coho salmon, two salmon per day.” The same correction clarifies that bag limits and early-2027 measures apply to the entire Point Arena–Pigeon Point (San Francisco) area, not only the 38°02′ N–Pigeon Point subarea.

This is not a new season announcement. Monterey’s Sept. 1–30 window is still under the statewide fall Chinook harvest guideline already covered on this desk. NMFS says the fix does not change the analyses or total catch and waived notice-and-comment as an error correction.
