Del Norte razor clams reopen after domoic acid clear

North Coast clammers got one county back. CDFW Director Meghan Hertel reopened the recreational razor clam fishery in Del Norte County on Aug. 31, 2026 after state health agencies said July–August samples from Crescent Beach no longer showed dangerous domoic acid levels.

The Del Norte closure had started July 31. Humboldt County remains closed — that domoic acid shutdown dates to May 2024 and stays until health agencies clear it. CDFW will keep testing with CDPH and OEHHA.

Rules for open Del Norte water: daily bag 20, and the first 20 clams dug must be kept regardless of size or condition. The fishery is open south of Battery Point in Crescent City.
