California commercial fall ocean salmon reopens Sept. 11–15

California’s fall commercial ocean salmon fishery gets its next open block later this week. After the Sept. 4–8 window closed, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife fall commercial schedule lists Sept. 11–15 as the next open period in the 38°02′ N. to Pigeon Point subarea.

The fall commercial fishery runs under a 20,000-Chinook harvest limit, with a landing limit of 100 Chinook per vessel per open period, a 100-fish possession limit, and a 26-inch minimum total length. All commercial salmon in this fishery must be landed between Point Arena and Pigeon Point within 24 hours of any closure. Later September blocks on the same page are Sept. 18–22 and Sept. 25–30.

Managers can still cut landing limits or close open days early if harvest nears the fall limit. Commercial operators should confirm the latest tracker and hotline before leaving the dock: CDFW ocean salmon hotline (707) 576-3429.
